Fennel is a doll living in a child's room. She comes to life at night and fights off "nightmares" to keep her kid safe. Nightmares is really a bit of a catch all term; really its more of thoughts that need processing, things that might take a little more than surface level to understand. Once a nightmare is tied up and has calmed down, they usually become a better thought, a much friendlier sort of character- a concept. Some concepts stay as side characters, some leave. And this is how things have gone for a long long time now. The issues start when one night there's a nightmare that Fennel can't quite get under control...
Junebug is a child who likes to play in the neighborhood backwoods with her friends and get into little misadventures. She likes playing dress up, climbing things, and kite flying. Her favorite fantasy is being the moth princess. Her friend Selkie lives down the block, and likes soccer and soft things. Her favorite fantasy is playing ocean dragons. The backwoods comes with some imagination that puts the characters between fantasy and reality. Junebug can flap her wings, or Selkie can swing her tail, and you'll never be quite sure if it was a consious movement or just the wind.
Originally Junebug's story was going to be more along the lines of alice in wonderland but bugs and origami, but has since shifted. Maybe I'll get back to the starting idea at some point
